South Jersey nighttime skies: 177th Fighter Wing drills

South Jersey residents may hear the searing roar of a fighter jet flyby this week. "What's going on..? "I wonder what's going on??" is the questions that start flying" in my household, especially in the quiet dead of a dark spring night. The highly respected 177th Fighter Wing, based out of the Atlantic City International Airport in Egg Harbor Township, will be conducting drills, it has been announced. The 177th, is a unit of The New Jersey Air National Guard and operates the F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft. Yes, they protect our national defense and also play a crucial role in various domestic missions and disaster relief efforts. No doubt, our defenders can be called to active duty at any time, so keeping the skillsets strong and current is crucial as well. So, heads up "light-sleepers." Should you hear a roaring flyby during the overnight hours this week (April 30-May 3), rest assured, you need not run for cover. Our defenders are conducting drills for preparedness at any hour for future deployment. Go back to sleep, sleep well and know our heroes are hard at work!
